A Pomeranian is a tiny mini spitz that is square-proportioned with a rounded, cobby body. The breed has the spitz traits of small ears, double coats, curly tails, and dual. The face is alert and fox-like. The walking style is easy and smooth with a good range and drive. The soft and thick undercoat, combined with the harsher outer coat, separated from the body to create a unique, puffy look. The appearance is further enhanced with the wide, ruff, and erect head carriage that naturally focuses on the sky.

History

The tiniest member of the spitz clan, the Pomeranian is a tough sledding dog with solid predecessors. The exact date when the dog started to breed down in size isn't known. It is not known precisely when this miniaturization began; however, Germany and, specifically, Pomerania is most likely to be the location. The dog's most likely ancestor could be that of the Deutscher Spitz. The breed only became popular after it was introduced into England was it given the name of the Pomeranian However, the first dogs were not as large as the "Poms" known today. They weighed up to 30 pounds and were usually white. It is believed that the Japanese Spitz has a lot in common with earlier Pomeranians and is very likely to descend from the breed. While the Pomeranian was acknowledged as a dog by the English Kennel Club in 1870 but it wasn't until the reigning queen Victoria introduced the Pomeranian out of Italy that its popularity increased. The Pomeranians of Queen Victoria were large grey dogs. In 1900, Poms were recognized by AKC and were displayed in England and America in a wide range of colors. This miniature sled dog has admirers and is a wildly loved show dog and pet.

Temperament

Boozy, bold, and active, The Pomeranian enjoys every day. The Pomeranian is curious, fun and confident (even confident) and alert, and always up to go on an adventure or play. Some are reserved towards strangers, while others are territorial towards other dogs, while others are a pleasure to bark with.

Care

It is a Pomeranian who is active but small with a need for daily exercise. However, they are capable of meeting the demands of activity through indoor games or short walks. The double coat should be brushed at least twice a week, with more frequent brushing in the event of the shed.
